Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born on 10 February 1805 in Kainakary, a small village of Alleppey district. St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-1871) was a prominent Indian Catholic priest, social reformer, and visionary. Born in Kerala, he co-founded the first indigenous congregation for men, the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), and later the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC) for women. St. Chavara was dedicated to education, establishing the first Catholic Sanskrit school and printing press in Kerala. He also promoted social reforms, particularly in education and the upliftment of the marginalized. His legacy includes a profound commitment to spiritual renewal, education, and social justice, making him a beacon of inspiration and patronage.
